DISH receiver connection options

There are three ways to connect your receiver to the internet.

With an Ethernet cable

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the receiver to your modem as shown.

With a Power Line Broadband Connector

Use if your receiver is not close to your modem/router and you have a wireless router and a model 222k, 612, 622, 722, or 722k receiver, this method is not for use on Hopper, Joey or 411 model receivers. The Power Line Broadband Connector allows multiple receivers to connect to your broadband service through the power cord and the electrical wiring in your home. Visit mydish.com/orderfromstore to purchase a Power Line Broadband Connector.

  1. Find power outlet nearest to your modem/router and plug in the Power Line Broadband Connector (do not plug into a surge protector or a power strip).

  2. Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem/router to your Power Line Broadband Connector.

  3. Unplug the receiver from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds and then plug back in. It will take no more than 5 minutes for the receiver to power back on.

With a Wireless Adapter

Connect the Wi-Fi Broadband Connector to your VIP 222k, 612, 622, 722, 722k or 922 receiver's USB port using the provided extension cable. The Wi-Fi Broadband Connector allows one receiver to connect to your broadband service using your wireless network. Visit mydish.com/orderfromstore to purchase Wi-Fi Broadband Connector.

  1. Connect the Wi-Fi Broadband Connector to your receiver's USB port using the provided extension cable.

Windows PC

  1. In the system tray (usually in the bottom right corner of your computer screen), click (or double-click) the icon for your wireless connection software (see examples below).

  2. You should see a list of wireless networks. The list should include your modem's network and possibly others. Select your network and follow your software's next steps.

Note: If you see "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection," try a different icon in the system tray (see above for common icons). Another application is managing your wireless connections. You might have to contact your computer manufacturer and/or the wireless software company for additional help.

  3. Enter the network security key (password) that you set up before or that is on the bottom of your modem if you didn't change it. The key is case sensitive. If entered correctly, your computer should wirelessly connect to the modem.

  4. Test your wireless connection. If the computer you are setting up to use wirelessly is connected to the modem using a cable, unplug it. Open a new page in your browser. If you don not see a web page from the Internet, try repeating steps 1, 2 and 3 to reconnect.

  5. You can use these instructions to wirelessly connect any Windows PC.
